Information for the local community about the Noosa Classic on Sunday 26 August 2018.

About the Noosa Classic

The Noosa Classic is a road cycling event that takes in the beautiful Noosa Hinterland and surrounds. The ride incorporates three routes, extending from Tewantin to Cooroy, Imbil, Kandanga, Cooran, Kin Kin, Cootharaba and Boreen Point.

The centre of activity on the day will be the Noosa Classic event village at Read Park, Tewantin. Please come along and cheer the riders as they cross the finish line during the day.

The event village will be open from 10am-4pm and will include live music, market stalls, children’s activities a cycling exhibitors and more.

Riders from all over Australia have registered for the inaugural event. Many will be staying in Noosa over the weekend boosting tourism and bringing considerable economic benefits to the local region.

A special thank you to Noosa Council, Tourism Noosa, Department of Transport and Main Roads, QLD Police for their ongoing support and assistance.

When is it?

The Noosa Classic is on Sunday 26 August.

The inaugural cycling event includes three courses, the 160KM Maxi Classic, the 120KM Challenge Classic, and the 45KM Social Classic.

The ride starts at Read Park, Tewantin, between 6.30am and 7.45am.

The first riders will return to Read Park at 10am. The last riders are expected to cross the finish line around 3.00pm.

Noosa Classic Event Village

The Noosa Classic Event Village is at Read Park, Tewantin.

When: 10.00am to 4.00pm, Sunday 26 August

What: The event village will be a lively centre of activity and entertainment as riders cross the finish line during the day. All welcome!

Note: The event village will be open in a limited capacity on Saturday (1-4pm) and Sunday (5am to 7.30am), mainly for rider kit collection. A limited number of cycling stalls will be open on the Saturday.

Event Village parking

Parking will be available at Noosa District Sports Complex, Tewantin.

Enter from Butler St, opposite Shields Street.

Marshalls will direct motorists to parking spaces.

Start line

Cheer on cyclists as they depart Goodwin St, Tewantin, between 6.30am and 7.45am.

6.30am- 6.50am: 160KM Maxi Classic riders cross the start line and head south-west on Noosa Cooroy Rd.

7.00am to 7.20am: 120KM Challenge Classic riders cross the start line and head south-west on Noosa Cooroy Rd.

7.30am to 7.45am: 45KM Social Classic riders cross the start line and head north-west on McKinnon Drive.

Finish line

Riders will cross the finish line at Read Park between 10am and 3.00pm.

Road closures

ROAD CLOSURES

• Goodwin Street (between Cullinane St and Poinciana Ave) will be closed from 5am-5pm Sunday 26 August.

• Gyndier Drive will be closed from 6.15am-7.45am on Sunday 26 August.

All other roads will be open.

If you are driving on any of the roads which are being used for the event, please ensure that you take care and be watchful for cyclists.

Police will be patrolling the course throughout the day to ensure cyclists and motorists observe all road rules.

Cycle routes

Noosa Classic cycle routes: Sunday 26 August

160KM and 120KM courses

Riders on the 160KM and 120KM courses will start between 6.30 and 7.30am and head west on Cooroy Noosa Rd, then Gyndler Dr. They will proceed to Tinbeerwah and Cooroy.

Riders on the 120KM course will divert north on Kenilworth Skyring Creek Rd to Carters Ridge, while 160KM riders will continue on to Brooloo, Imbil and Kandanga.

The courses will merge again near Tuchekoi and continue on to Pinbarren, Cooran, Kin Kin and Cootharaba. Riders will return to Tewantin via McKinnon Drive, finishing at Read Park between 10.30am and 4pm.

45KM Course

Riders on the 45KM course will start between 7.30 and 745am and head north on McKinnon Drive. They will follow a clockwise loop (via Junction Rd, Cootharaba Rd and Lake Flat Rd) to Boreen Point, before heading back to the finish line via Louis Bazzo Dr and McKinnon Drive. Riders on the 45km course will finish at read Park between 9.45am and 11am.
